‘Getting Dementia Care Right: What’s Not Working and How It Can Change’ Wins Gold in 2024 National Mature Media Awards Program

Getting Dementia Care Right 2024 Mature Media Award Gold WinnerBaltimore, MD (August 23, 2024) — Anne Ellett and her book Getting Dementia Care Right: What’s Not Working and How It Can Change was a winner in the 33rd annual National Mature Media Awards Program. The program, presented by the Mature Market Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for the senior market, recognizes the nation’s finest marketing, communications, educational materials, and programs designed and produced for older adults.

Ellett’s book received the prestigious Gold Award in the Book category. The book draws on Ellett’s extensive nursing and administrative experience in assisted living and skilled nursing communities to explore the obsolete ideas and programs behind current dementia care practices, and contrasts these with innovative alternatives from across the country. In the process, it challenges ordinary perceptions of what is possible for people living with dementia, and provides realistic, actionable practices that will help set a course for positive change in the lives of residents and care staff alike.

“We were delighted to take part yet again in the Mature Media Awards Program this year,” says Mary Magnus, Director of Publications for Health Professions Press, the publisher of Ellett’s book. “We’re honored that this unique resource was selected as the top winner in its category. The takeaway of this book is that we can do better—and we must demand better—in our day-to-day support for people living with memory loss. We’re excited for the opportunity to get these strategies for overcoming challenges into the hands of people who need them the most.”

The entries were judged by a distinguished panel of mature market experts from across the United States for overall excellence of design, content, creativity, and relevance to the senior market. You can see a full list of winners here.
